Windows in Time: Images on the Street

A Celebration of Local Heritage through Historic Images on the Streets of Torbay

The Medium of photography as we know it today has been going just a little longer than the Torquay Museum has exited, around 175 years. We hold tens of thousands of historic images in our collections and through this exhibition, we hope you will see how these images connect us through time and space to people and places in the past.

Follow the trail from Torquay Station along the seafront to Beacon Cove, then around the harbour and through the centre of Torquay to St Mary Magdalene Church. Use the map below to find 26 images (including two in Paignton), most are obvious but a few are more hidden away. Discover lost buildings, dramatic events and people from the past. See Torbay’s history as never before, where it happened!

Within each picture is an object from the Museum’s collections, some are easy to find, others are more well-hidden. Find and name ten objects and bring your list to the Museum and claim a prize!

UPDATE: This trail is officially over but most of the images are still up for visitors and people of Torbay to enjoy.
