As a charity, Torquay Museum relies heavily on the generosity of the public to carry out its work.
We receive no central government funding and the limited funding from other bodies, such as Torbay Council, is not guaranteed for the future, nor is it sufficient for us to plan our vital conservation and development work.
The Torquay Museum Endowment Fund is essential to ensure the continuity of our work and to provide for the acquisition and care of important additions to the collections. Without this support the future of the Museum cannot be secure, with the prospect of the collections being dispersed around the world and lost to Torquay and its people forever.
Your legacy will enable the Museum to care for our shared past. It will support the imaginative interactive interpretation of our remarkable collections, providing exhibitions, displays, activities, lectures and school programmes. Our Endowment Fund helps us to fulfil our heritage responsibilities and secures the Museum’s future for the benefit of generations to come. Below is an indication of what a donation or a gift in your Will could fund:
The Museum, which enriches our lives today, is a legacy created by the imagination and foresight of Torquay’s Victorian philanthropists. But there is more work to be done. We must continue to be forward thinking in order to place Torquay Museum at the heart of Torbay as an educational resource and heritage attraction and to secure the Museum for generations to come. Your legacy can help to make this happen.
Please remember Torquay Museum in your Will. There are a number of ways to leave a legacy which you can discuss with your solicitor – a gift of money, a share of your estate and specific items of property. If you already have a Will, your wishes can be put into effect by a simple amendment (called a codicil). Gifts to charity are generally exempt from all Inheritance Tax, Capital Gains Tax and Income Tax, so the full value of your gift will go straight to help our work in the conservation and interpretation of collections, inspiring generations to come.
"I give to Torquay Museum of 529 Babbacombe Road Torquay the sum of £………………… for the general purposes of the said Museum and declare that the receipt of the Hon. Treasurer or other proper officer shall be sufficient discharge for my Executor(s)."
