TALK: Still Digging: 200 Years of Discovery at Kents Cavern
27th Jan 2027, 10:45 am
Torquay Museum Society Lecture by Dr Helen Fewlass
An enigmatic leaf-shaped stone tool was discovered at Kents Cavern 200 years ago by John McEnery. Who made these tools has long been a subject of debate - the final Neanderthals to live in Europe, or the first Homo sapiens to arrive? A new project, ARRIVAL, is aiming to resolve this question by exploring key sites across Europe, including returning to excavate at Kents Cavern, 200 years after the first leaf tool was found. In this talk, Helen gives an update on their first field season.
Lectures are free of charge to Torquay Museum Society Members but the general public are also welcome to attend - £5 per ticket, payable on the door.
