TALK: Beneath Our Feet: An Artistic Interpretation of the Geopark

calendar30th May 2025, 10:00 am

30th May (10am - 11.30pm)

Tickets: recommended donation £4

Join us for a talk with Devon-based creative and geologist Grace Clifford, as part of the English Riviera UNESCO Global Geopark Festival 2025. Grace will share insights into her ongoing project Beneath Our Feet, an exploration of the unseen beauty of the Geopark's geological heritage through the lens of science and printmaking.

Drawing on her background in geology and her artistic practice focused on etching and printmaking, Grace invites audiences to discover the striking visual world of geological thin sections – microscopic views of local rock that reveal extraordinary colour, pattern and form. Her project brings together science communication and fine art to ask how we can better connect with our environment by looking closer at what lies beneath.

This relaxed talk will include behind-the-scenes stories from the project’s development, a look at Grace’s creative process, and a discussion on the role of art in science education and engagement. Attendees will also get the chance to explore artworks, sketches and geological samples from the project up close.

Whether you’re passionate about art, science, or simply curious about the world beneath your feet, this is an inspiring chance to see our natural world from a completely new perspective.
