Frequently Asked Questions

What do I have to bring?
You’ll be camping, so you will need a sleeping bag, ground mat and pillow. Please note - the museum is not able to provide any sleeping materials. For health and safety reasons, we can't allow any motorised blow-up mattresses or other mattresses which would require electricity to inflate. It's recommended that you also bring a torch, toothbrush, ear plugs (the sleeping area is communal, so if you're a light sleeper you may find these beneficial) and an eye mask, as some lights will be left on in the galleries.

You'll need to bring clothing to sleep in, for example, a tracksuit (not pyjamas or other nightwear – this is in case of an emergency, and we have to quickly evacuate the building). Changing in the galleries isn't permitted due to it being a communal area. Temperature in the galleries can fluctuate, so please dress appropriately – we encourage you to bring layers.

Food won't be provided until breakfast, so you'll probably need snacks and refreshments to keep you going at the snack break time. There will be hot chocolate and cookies for all during the mid-evening snack break. Please be aware that food is not permitted in gallery spaces and sleeping areas.

When you arrive for the event, you'll be asked by your group leader to leave all food items in a designated area in the Local Studies Library. Only bottled water can be taken into the gallery spaces and sleeping areas.

You won't be able to use electrical items that require a plug, and we strongly recommend you don't bring items with you that are of financial or sentimental value.

Toilets are available for washing, teeth cleaning and changing however there are no showers available.

What are the adults' responsibilities?

This will ensure everyone has a safe and enjoyable evening. Responsibilities include following the team leader's directions, keeping your group together and under control at all times, and making sure your group does not disturb those who are sleeping.

Can the adults bring alcohol?
The consumption of alcohol is strictly forbidden at Sleepwalk Like An Egyptian. If our staff suspect you have been consuming alcohol, our Events Manager has the right to search your bags and test your liquids. If you are caught with alcohol your party will be removed from the event immediately.

Is this event suitable for children with access requirements or disabilities?
Yes, Torquay Museum and Sleepwalk Like An Egyptian encourages participation from children with disabilities and aims to be inclusive and welcoming for all children. We will do all we can to ensure additional needs are met and reasonable adjustments are made wherever possible. Please be aware it is the responsibility of the accompanying adult to ensure that the event environment is suitable for any child in their care. If you'd like to talk to a member of the team to learn more about whether the event would be suitable for you, please don't hesitate to get in touch.  If anyone in your group has additional needs, accessibility or health requirements please let us know on booking.
