This vessel was made by potters of the Sican or Lambayeque culture that inhabited the north coast of Peru. Sican ceramics were produced on a large scale as storage or cooking vessels, architectural ornaments or sculptures. This example made between 1300 - 1400AD depicts a high-status individual seated on a throne.
