Plundering Pirates: Fact, Film & Fiction
PAST EXHIBITION
29 June 2013 - 7 October 2013
Whether you're a scurvy sea dog or a captain in the making, join us for our brilliant summer exhibition: Plundering Pirates: Fact, Film & Fiction. Here from June 29th until September 7th 2013, this family friendly exhibition has something for everyone. For the first time in Torquay Museum, come face to face and learn more about the cannons, swords and muskets that were central to the life of pirates around the world.
Already one of the most popular exhibits of Summer 2013, discover what a pirate's life was really like, and read about the gruesome punishments inflicted on those who were caught breaking the laws and traditions of the high seas. Or, if you'd prefer, marvel at the pearls and treasures of the past, and dress up in our costumes at the end. (Mums, Dads, this applies to you too!). You can also take part in our interactive games and activities, and take part in our quiz, where you could win your very own treasure...
Discover more about the popularity and impact of pirates in film and literature. Take a look at Captain Jack Sparrow’s impressive costume from the blockbuster Pirates of the Caribbean films. Worn by Johnny Depp himself, this is the very same costume that featured in the exciting Curse of the Black Pearl film. If animation is more your thing, don't miss the puppets from Aardman Animations’ movie The Pirates! In an Adventures with Scientists! which we have in our display.
Still unsure whether to shiver your timbers at our fascinating exhibit this summer? Here's what some of our land lubbers had to say about their experience...
"It's epic!" Tyler, Torquay
"I now see pirates in a different way!" Ria, Newton Abbot
"Fab! Costumes are great!" King Family, Derby
